VMAs 2024: The Best (And Worst) Celebrity Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet

Every year, MTV’s Video Music Awards bring the red carpet to life with daring fashion choices and bold beauty statements to match. While the outfits may steal the spotlight, it’s the makeup and hairstyles that truly complete each look—and this year’s VMAs were no exception.

Whether it was Taylor Swift’s voluminous mane, Halle Bailey’s hairline curls or Halsey’s new red hue, there was plenty of creative hair inspiration. Makeup was also on point, with Sabrina Carpenter’s Ombré lips and Lisa’s perfect cat eyes among the standout looks. 

But while these stars brought their A-game, others took risks that didn’t quite hit the mark. Read on as we dive into the best (and worst) beauty moments from the 2024 VMAs.

The last time we saw Taylor, she was doing fresh-faced glam at the Golden Globes. Here, she took the same template, but dialled it up with heavier makeup and messier, more voluminous hair. (Have I mentioned how much I love this not-quite-blonde, not-quite-brunette hair colour?!) This is a modern smoky eye, with the colour all the way around the eyes and no heavy lashes. The brick-toned lipstick and blush aren’t quite the right shade for her (too warm!), but she still pulls them off.
