How to Do Heart Nail Art
Of course Jin Soon Choi would come up with the most adorable and totally chic nail art idea for Valentine’s Day. (The celeb manicurist’s long list of clients includes Lady Gaga, Olivia Wilde, Kerry Washington, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts, Michelle Williams, Emma Stone and numerous others.)
Even if you swear you’re over nail art, you’ve gotta make an exception for her three-colour mash-up of tone-on-tone hearts. It’s so much more sophisticated than what’s clogging up my Pinterest feed this month!
You can get the look with Jin’s own nail polishes from her JINsoon line, or choose colours of your own—this would also look fantastic in purples.
Here are her step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Apply Base Coat

Start by filing and shaping your nails into a natural square or rounded shape. Then apply a base coat such as JINsoon Power Coat.
Step 2: Apply Your First Colour All Over the Nail

Apply a pink shade on the entire nail bed. Jin used a new shade called Dolly Pink that will be out in late February with her spring 2014 collection, but you can also try Muse, a sheer pink.
Step 3: Apply Your Second Colour in a Heart Shape

Next, apply JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Coral Peony on one side of the nail, covering about 3/4′s of the nail bed and ending in a subtle curve to create half of the heart shape. Repeat on the other side, taking special care to intersect the two sides at the centre of the nail.
Step 4: Apply Your Third Colour in a Heart Shape

Then, apply JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Coquette (red) on one side of the nail, covering about half of the nail bed and ending in the same subtle curve as you did when applying the Coral Peony. Repeat on the other side, again taking special care to intersect the two sides at the centre of the nail.
Step 5: Apply Top Coat

Finish with a high-shine top coat such as JINsoon Top Gloss.
