Best of 2023: The 39 Beauty Products That I Used and Loved the Most (From Skincare to Makeup to Haircare)

The year in review.

At the end of each year, I always like to take a moment to highlight all the products that impressed me the most over the past 12 months, whether they were new discoveries or old favourites.

I feel like 2023 started off “business as usual”—but then I started researching pore-clogging ingredients, and that changed everything! Not only did I switch up a lot of my skincare products, I also found new makeup and haircare (since they, too, can be comedogenic). Now, I feel like my skin is happier without all those problematic waxes and emollients... and it seems to be producing less oil, too!

Best Gel Cleanser

Ingredients Face Cleanser

Ingredients Face Cleanser was a random purchase that ended up being my favourite gel cleanser of 2023. It initially caught my eye because the ingredients are listed on the front of the bottle, and there are only eight of them! I loved using this because it’s way more gentle than most gel cleansers, producing only a minimal lather, so it doesn’t dry you out.

Best Foaming Cleanser

Medik8 Gentle Cleanse

For foaming cleanser, I liked Medik8 Gentle Cleanse so much that I went through almost the entire bottle. This is a hydrating cleanser for sensitive skin, but I honestly think all skin types would love it. The foam has an almost creamy, whipped texture and it leaves your skin feeling so soft (not tight). 

Best Micellar Water

Verso Micellar Water

While I still use good old Bioderma for cleaning up eye makeup smudges, I splurged on Verso Micellar Water as the first step in my nighttime cleansing routine. I got it on sale, so I’m not sure I’d say that it’s worth double the price, but it is a great formula. No stinging at all, really effective at makeup removal, and I felt it was more hydrating on my skin.
